Cucumber prefers warmth and is not cold-resistant.The optimum temperature for growth is 10~32℃,generally 25~32℃(day)and 15~18℃(night)are the best;the most suitable ground temperature is 20~25℃,the lowest is about 15℃.The most suitable diurnal temperature difference is 10~15℃
Most varieties grow well under short-day conditions of 8 to 11 hours.Cucumbers have high yields and require substantial water, with an optimal soil moisture level of 60% to 90%.During the seedling stage, excessive water should be avoided;the soil moisture should be maintained at 60% to 70%.During the fruiting period, sufficient water must be supplied, keeping the soil moisture at 80% to 90%.The ideal relative humidity for cucumbers is around 60%,as higher humidity can easily lead to disease and reduce yield.Cucumbers prefer moist conditions but cannot tolerate waterlogging, and they thrive in fertile soil rich in organic matter.
Cucumbers have high requirements for soil fertility, and the amount of fertilizer needed is significantly greater than that required for other vegetables.Fertilization should primarily focus on heavy application of organic matter to increase soil organic content and permeability, enhancing the soil's buffering capacity.Throughout their growth cycle, cucumbers absorb the most potassium, followed by nitrogen, with phosphorus being the least needed. They also require substantial amounts of calcium and magnesium, especially calcium.
Generally, follow the principle of"light watering in the early stage and heavy watering in the later stage,"which is known as"control at the beginning and promote later."After the initial irrigation to help seedlings establish, start controlling water and begin the hardening-off period, which lasts about 10 days. When the root cucumbers show significant growth and set,and the color of the fruit becomes deeper, end the hardening-off period and start watering again.Generally, water every 6 to 7 days.
